Swedish Massage
Swedish massage aims to soothe and calm the body and mind and promote relaxation, release muscular tension and improve circulation. It has been developed for its therapeutic benefits to aid medical and athletic recovery, the management of chronic pain and mental healthcare. It warms and relaxes the muscles, increases blood flow to organs and muscles and detoxifies due to improved lymphatic drainage. The calming effect of Swedish massage can help lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increase the production of serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that enhance mood, support mental clarity, improve focus and promote emotional wellbeing. Five main techniques are applied using oils to allow for smooth flowing movements over the skin, effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration.
